2025 BMW M2

The M2 was named MotorTrend’s 2024 Performance Car of the Year and while changes are only slight for 2025, the impressive performance critics and car enthusiasts rave about is still front and center. The 2025 BMW M2 is a riot to drive thanks to the standard manual transmission and willingness to do almost anything the driver demands, from full-out track days to politely running errands. Some might even call it a practical sportscar, should such a thing exist.

2025 BMW M2 Changes

For 2025, BMW bumped the power on the M2 from an already stout 453 horsepower to 473 horsepower, shaving 0.1 seconds off its 0 to 60 mph time. Beyond that, the new M2 gets a facelift inside and out, with new accents and the latest BMW Operating System—iDrive 8.5. Striking new exterior color choices make the 2025 M2 stand out more than ever, and new accelerator mapping cranks up the responsiveness of the more powerful 3.0-liter engine.

Who’s It For?

Your average driver likely won’t appreciate the unhinged yet refined attitude of the 2025 BMW M2. As the smallest and least expensive among the BMW M cars, the M2 is the gateway to amplified performance. While you can easily take it to pick up an overpriced coffee on your way to the office, unwinding the M2 on your way home is where it shines. The entire BMW M lineup is meant for enthusiasts, as one of the few car makers still listening to what makes car enthusiasts happy; rear-wheel drive, manual transmissions, instant throttle response, sublime handling, and aggressive looks. It’s a tall order, but the M2 delivers.

Engineered Performance

Drivers don’t invest in an M car without a certain level of expectation when it comes to performance, and BMW knows that. Even the most compact model in the M lineup packs a punch. A 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine with twin mono-scroll turbochargers powers the M2. To support the impressive power numbers of the engine, BMW has employed an indirect intercooler, High Precision Injection, and an electronically controlled wastegate. The automaker knew drivers would do more with the M2 than just casual driving, so engineers created a map-controlled oil pump that ensures the oil supply is consistent, even under heavy cornering and acceleration. A track-ready cooling system allows the M2 to perform under the most extreme conditions, from hot summer days to even hotter laps.

A well-designed engine is only the beginning of what makes the M2 great. Rear-wheel drive provides the true sportscar feel most enthusiasts want, with the capability to oversteer joyously into a corner. The Active M Differential and Adaptive M Suspension work together to provide superior chassis control. The standard M Compound Brakes with brake fade compensation, brake drying, and brake stand-by provide consistent feedback for optimal driver confidence.
