Overview
Slotting between the entry-level X1 and the larger X5, the 2019 BMW X3 redefines what it means for an SUV to be an SUV. The 2019 model year continues BMW's "sports activity vehicle" philosophy by providing the style, luxury, and driving dynamics of the carmaker's sedans and coupes to a high-riding crossover. The result is a vehicle that's just as happy tackling the daily commute as a 3 Series sedan, but can do a lot more when called upon, particularly when the going gets rough.
The Perfect Ride for…
Drivers looking for a vehicle that boasts the capabilities of a crossover but has the control of a coupe. The 2019 BMW X3 combines the world of BMW's luxury and performance with the ample size and utility of a crossover, quite literally offering the best of both worlds. With a number of impressive standard technology features, you'll feel right at home, but there's always the option to upgrade to the number of luxury features the X3 offers. Whatever your decision, you really can't find a vehicle that compares.
Drive & Handling
An Ultimate Driving Machine needs a powerful and responsive engine, and the 2019 BMW X3 has a whole selection of them. They'll keep you entertained on the road without breaking the bank when it comes time to fill up.
Starting at $41,000,* the standard X3 xDrive30i and sDrive30i are powered by a 2.0-liter, 16-valve, turbocharged inline-four that produces 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. That's 8 horsepower more than the outgoing xDrive28i and it shows—both the xDrive30i and sDrive are estimated to go from 0-60 in 6 seconds and are capable of reaching a top speed of 130 mph.
In true BMW fashion, the X3 comes with an optional M performance package which bestows numerous performance upgrades. The X3 M40i is outfitted with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that cranks out an impressive 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. For perspective, that's up 55 horsepower and 69 pound-feet from last year's most powerful X3 model. It's said to hit 60 mph in a short 4.6 seconds, which is a feat for any vehicle, let alone an SUV. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is standard.
EPA-estimated gas mileage for the X3 xDrive30i is 26 mpg combined (23 city/30 hwy),** which is competitive for its class. The larger, more powerful M40i is good for 23 mpg combined (20 city/27 hwy).**
