2016 BMW X1 Awarded 'Top Safety Pick+' from IIHS

BMW is famous for its range of dynamic sports cars and SAVs, but what often gets overlooked is the brand’s commitment to safety. Thankfully, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is here to remind us all. The latest model to earn its praise? The 2016 BMW X1.
The IIHS has awarded the 2016 BMW X1 a “Top Safety Pick+" rating, continuing the brand’s long-standing commitment to class-leading safety.
BMW of Silver Spring is proud to offer the BMW X1, a vehicle that goes beyond mere performance by providing owners with the utmost piece of mind.
In order to earn “Top Safety Pick+”, a car must receive a rating of “good”, the Institute’s highest rating, in all five crashworthiness tests and feature an available front crash prevention system that earns an advanced or superior rating. The X1 has a history of strong safety performance. Like its predecessor, the 2016 BMW X1 earned good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests.
In terms of structural rigidity, the 2016 X1 benefits from a number of enhancements. It features a new body and structure design that adds 1.7 inches in height, 0.9 inches in width, and loses 1.1 inches in length. As a result, the new body structure design boosted performance in the small overlap front crash test, earning a “good” rating.
The IIHS was also impressed with the X1’s newly available front crash prevention system. It earned an advanced rating from the IIHS, and in track tests at 12 mph, impact speed was reduced by an average of 10 mph. In the 25 mph test, impact speed was reduced by 7 mph. The system includes a forward collision warning component that meets National Highways Traffic Safety Administration stringent criteria.
The 2016 BMW X1 also features a high-level of standard safety features including BMW Assist® eCall, BMW TeleService, Dynamic Stability Control, Brake Dry Assist, Cornering Brake Control, and Dynamic Traction Control. Optional features such as Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning (including Pedestrian Warning and City Collision Mitigation) are also available.
When it comes to the 2016 BMW X1, you can rest easy knowing that you and your passengers are surrounded by award-winning safety.
